Urban Sunsets Workshop with Christine Barnes
In May the Bainbridge Modern Quilt Guild had a workshop featuring Christine Barnes and her Urban Sunsets technique. In the workshop we discussed color, value, scale of the print and skinny strip piecing. Christine was delightful. A super instructor. You can tell by the results!!!
We first pieced the skinny strips at odd angles then squared up each block to add the border. At this point I wish I had brought many more fabrics to choose from. Can you ever have enough fabric? Ha ha! My solution was to make warm blocks and cool blocks.
Here are a few trimmed blocks waiting to have borders attached. Nine blocks make up the wall hanging size quilt.
Christine came prepared with the ombre fabric for the border. The cutting and placement makes it look as if the border fades right around each block. At this step it was fun to see everything start coming together. The final piecing I completed at home later that day. I’m not at all obsessive!
And the finished quilt face with the Ombre borders attached.
Here is my quilt finished just in time for the Annual Bainbridge Quilt Festival put on by the Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild. I decided to use a subtle gray binding to allow the colorful blocks to really pop.
The quilt next to mine was made by Deb Wensch. Her binding features a skinny strip placed along the edge. I love the way it frames the whole quilt and ties together the skinny strips in each block. Well done Deb!
Five quilts all made using the same technique from the class. Each one is very similar but unique at the same time. I loved all of them hanging together in the Quilt Festival.
Happy Quilting!

anybody get that type of information in such an ideal means of writing?
I have a presentation next week, and I’m at the
