The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

At North Rim Drive there are several view points to choose. We started at The Brink of Lower Falls first. It’s a bit of a winding hike down 600 feet in elevation to the falls but so very worth it. Your standing right on top of the waterfall. The sound of the water thundering over the falls is intense.

Lower Falls drops 308 feet. No wonder you can’t see the bottom.

Lower Falls Lookout – Red Rock Trail

The Red Rock Trail is another drop of 500 feet in elevation. I’m getting my work out today. From here you get a view of Lower Falls in it’s entirety.

Just a few steps.

From the viewpoint at the top of the canyon you can see an Osprey nest on one of the pinnacles. Inspiration Point was closed for construction so we couldn’t stop there.

South Rim

The Brink of Upper Falls drops 109 feet and the overlook is right on top of the falls as well.

The hike to the view point is thankfully an easy walk.

Artist Point

Yellowstone

I must say all my photos are unaltered from my iPhone 6SE. The photos at Artist Point have a surreal look to them. It’s as if they are old time post cards that were colorized. The canyon does’nt look real. It must have something to do with the color of the canyon.

Yellowstone

I’ve heard you will often see artists actually painting along the canyon rim.

Tower Fall

Yellowstone

We got stuck in road construction at this point, not to mention a thunder storm, but that all adds to the travel experience.

Roosevelt Lodge

I can’t drive by a lodge without stopping. Roosevelt Lodge is the smallest lodge in Yellowstone making it warm and quaint. Built in 1919 it’s mainly a dinning hall and lounge. All around the lodge are rustic cowboy type cabins for rent.

Back at camp we were greeted with a rainbow for our last night at Yellowstone. Tomorrow we start the drive back to the Pacific Northwest.

Happy Travels.
