Lake McDonald Lodge
Lake McDonald Lodge was built in 1913. The lobby is 3 stories tall with exposed beams. Most of the beams still have the bark remaining on the logs. This lodge seems to me the most rustic and rugged of the lodges we have seen so far. Maybe it’s all the taxidermy animals present in the lobby. They seem to be hidding everywhere which I find it charming. I’ve seen many taxidermy animals that creep me out but not these.
Much of the decor appears to be original with many reproductions thrown in the mix. The hanging light fixtures blow me away! They are my favorite part of the lodge. All in all, well done. Beautifully decorated!
How many animals can you spy in the above photo?
Right next to the lodge we found a stream flowing into the lake with rock stacks all around. The cool breeze and shade were just what we needed.
Lake McDonald is famous for it’s colorful rocks. I couldn’t resist. The water felt so good on a hot day. I only wish I had my swim suit in the car.
The Viking and I had a PBR and a wonderful picnic by the lake.
Happy travels!
