Sewing By The Sea & Kalaloch

Sewing by the sea

My kids and I have made an annual trip to camp with cousins on the coast of Washington for 20 years. This year Sparky and MJ jointed us by the sea at Kalaloch in the Olympic National Park. A little seaside sewing time.

Our campsite was not on the water this year but we made a new friend. Sandy from Austin Texas who just retired and started a Vanlife adventure this summer.  She graciously shared her beautiful campsite with us for happy hour and a little sewing time. Can’t wait to hear all about her adventures.

Even though only one “child” (he’s now 26) was able to join me, we did all the usual day trips. Our weather was mostly cloudy with one beautiful surprise sunset that appeared below the cloud cover.

The trail to the Kalaloch Tree is closed due to erosion. This fabulous tree can only be viewed from the beach now in a attempt to keep it on the cliff as long as possible. I’ve taken a picture of this amazing tree just about every year. Each year I am so thankful it survived the winter. Many trees and campsites have been lost due to erosion over the years.

Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park – Hall of Mosses

From Kalaloch it’s only a 30 minute drive to the Hoh Rain forest. Along the way stop at Peak 6 Outdoor Shop and the Rainforest Cafe. The Hall of Mosses is an easy must do hike. From the parking lot it’s only about a mile long with some short uphill. The moss hanging off the trees with afternoon lighting is so magical.

Ruby Beach

My favorite beach of all time. Always a joy to see how the beach changes from year to year. Storms redistribute the logs and change the course of the stream. Some years the stream is more like a lake where we could  float in tubes. Other years the stack of logs made it a challenge to access the beach near Abbey Island. One day I’ll gather all those photos over the years to make a flip book on how the view has changed.

Lake Quinault Lodge on a rainy day

Lake Quinault Lodge

We sat in the lodge for a while chatting then walked along the lake in the rain. For some reason I didn’t take photos of the lodge this year. This photo of the lodge was taken a few years back. Such a warm cozy spot to sit on the lawn, by the lake or inside next to the fire.

MJ the Singer Featherweight and Sparky the Goal Zero Yeti 150  power supply. To learn more take a look at my previous post, Here.

Be brave. Sew outside. Sew anywhere!!!

Happy sewing!
