Yellowstone – Old Faithful Inn

Yellowstone

Old Faithful Inn

By now you know I love National Park Lodges. I’ve got to say Old Faithful Inn is my favorite by far. I am in awe.

Yellowstone National Park

There are no words to describe what I felt when I entered the lobby. The fireplace draws your eyes right up to the vast expanse of timbers framing the balconies and roof . Built out of lodgepole pines of all shapes and sizes. It’s the finest example of rustic “parkitecture” I have seen. When the lodge opened in 1904 it had electric lights and steam heat.

I love the organic feel of all the posts with thier curvy tree limbs.

The peak of the roof is 92 feet high covering 7 stories. The “crows nest” is the highest platform inside the lobby. Unfortunately it’s closed to the public. At one time musicians entertained guests from the crows nest.

We sat in the balcony for a while just absorbing the beauty of it all.

And the crowd!

It would be wonderful to stay here some day. I would watch Old Faithful from a different location all day long. Guess I’d have a hard time sleeping knowing the geyser was going off during the night. That would be something to see at night during a full moon. I’m defiantly going back…

Happy Travels!
